In Connecticut, when we lived down the street from Megan and Warren and their girls, and our first three children were very small indeed, my favorite song was The Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Listening to Carly Simon's rendition while trundling down the highway in a red Volvo wagon with three babies in car seats I knew that someday I would look upon those moments as sheer bliss.

I do now.

The thing about moments of sheer bliss is that when you are going through them they often don't seem like it. They can seem awkward and rough, occasionally heartbreaking.

Tomorrow, I'll have had 18,250 days of sheer bliss.

And it is terribly, terribly exciting to be entering the next half century.
