Crossroads Recycled Lumber

This looks like a great place. Found them on the web a few days ago, called & spoke to Marc today, and a package with sample pieces is now winging it's way toward me.
All for a cabin project, a little house in the mountains that is coming along well . . . a real joy. The client's focus, delightfully enough, is to design the whole shebang in the most environmentally friendly way possible. It's a delight. Months ago, we installed soaring arched windows (from Whole House Building Supply) which once graced the facade of a classic San Francisco townhouse: those San Francisco windows now look out over a lushly wooded mountain top that reaches, just beyond sight, to the Pacific.
It's a mountain greenery, for sure.
I'll let you know when the samples arrive. (Thank you, Marc!)

April Food Day

The Chronicle:

"Unfortunately, the scientific findings on diet and disease are marginalized by the political power of huge, mutually reinforcing commercial interests - meat, dairy, sugar, drugs and surgery...

These industries are desperate to sell a solution that obscures their part in the problem. If they can convince people that the cause of our health crisis has nothing to do with eating unhealthy food, and everything to do with increasing access to drugs and surgery, Americans will spend trillions more on health care without improving their health."

Next Step

Yummy new blog called stair porn, by the brilliant minds behind materialicious. To salute their new step, I'm posting a photo I took last summer at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena.

There's another photo of these steps on one of my earliest posts, "Vedana--Eric Case's Weblog: Steve Jobs Inspiration Roundup." I mention this because, for me, today has been a day of connecting dots...remarkable dots. Mr. Jobs covers this sort of thing beautifully when talking to the graduates at Stanford. I think there is so much between the lines in what he says, also: so much that can be heard, but was not said.

Funny thing about the Jobs "talk:" it's one for the history books, now. His words have been so often quoted, and ring so true, that it's more than just a commencement address. Worth watching; worth another watch, if you haven't seen it for awhile. Click here.

And Another Thing: The Mike Matas Blog

Okay, this little blog's lack of blogroll is a thing of the past. {Thanks to a fine tutorial from a genius who never makes one feel as though they have just emerged from the ancient tundra, having been in some sort of fitful snooze next to a fossilized woolly mammoth, while the age of the internet rolled in. Thank you, genius. Much appreciated.}

And, truth be told, the main reason I had to put up a blogroll (drumroll, please) was The Mike Matas Blog. Good Lord. This is visual aptitude taken to the nth. How can someone be this clever? Please click HERE for Mike's blog and spend a few minutes looking at the future. This is design at it's best.
