Weimar Color

While visiting the Goethe Haus,

and the Schiller Haus, it became

quite apparent that the colors in
Weimar were strikingly beautiful.

There seemed to be little fear of a good splash of bold.

All in all, an unexpected treat.
It brought a great deal of joy.
Who would have thought color
could do such an amazing job of
revitalizing an ancient city? It did.

Later, walking just a few streets away
from the center of town, most of the buildings
were far more muted. They retained a ghostly
presence, the shadow of living under another
government in another time (not so very long ago).
Wandering back into the heart of the city, you could
pretty much feel your blood start pumping once more;
the shadows gave way to the realization that
you'd never think about color the same way again.

Bauhaus Weimar

In Weimar, two summer's ago, fell crazy in love
with the little Bauhaus Museum. Don't think I was
supposed to be taking pictures, so these are all a
bit fuzzy. But you can take my word on this:
it's a swell place. Worth a few more visits.

became hail

raindrops the size of silver dollars soon became hail.
(hail, not small, lasted half hour. simple. magic on a
summer day in zurich. just snow like. then sun.)

Well, while I'd like to explain why a three-day trip to Virginia turned into a weekandahalf, it's something for later. Maybe. In the meantime, being up at this Virginia hour (safely back and cozy in California), I'll just post a few snaps from the Zurich airport. It was quite satisfying; a good place to spend a few extra minutes.

Nördlingen (again). Hard to believe,
but I forgot to take out my camera
before happening upon this one. It's
brilliant and rather crumbly dignity
made me stop in my tracks. Please
note the enamel 3 on the photo
above. Like all of the pictures in
recent posts, you can click on these
to enlarge and see detail. Kind of fun.

Camera got a good workout in Germany.
