day dream

This brings back memories.

Dearer than any I acquired,
the antique linen above
is from an eBay dealer
I highly recommend.

Go visit Pierre, if you have time.
(You might tell him Ms. Zimmerman sent you!)

The stuff of dreams.

Back in the Saddle

I love this book and believe
(if I am remembering correctly)
that it was almost impossible
to find a year or two ago.
Looks as 'tho it's back in town.
Thank Goodness.

and I thought to myself Why ever not?

This morning, staying home after feeling flu-ish, I received an email from my brother from another mother noting that the goodies in his company's Vault reminded him of me (a compliment I thought I'd be too meek to share, but there you go) and I pointed out to him that I had just posted it here and the vulcan mind meld continued when he sent me these pics a few minutes later (as I had just read about holiday Virgin America flights offering free wifi courtesy o' Google and was dreaming in that daydream flu sort of way of getting on a flight because London was calling for Christmas). These windows just make me want to pack my bags and do something...adventurous.

Ralph has flown over Saks and it surely does look spiffy, doesn't it?

Camp Meade 1917 [via Shorpy]

Some range!

Don't you just love the rakish toque
and saucy stance on the left?

The creased sleeve and defined posture
seem to offer subtle proof that style can
transcend the most unusual circumstance.

And then there's that killer flue.

spectacular SHORPY]

Over the Backyard Fence

They had three blond boys. The youngest could ride a trike like nobody's business. (He's an architect now.)

The Pilots were our neighbors. Mike was a great dad. He had a laugh you'd never forget.

I met their nephew one summer, talked to him for a few minutes over the backyard fence. He was visiting after science camp. His family lived in The Aleutians.

Three years later, he was back. His family had relocated. He was going to the Naval Academy in the fall.

His Aunt Mae and my mom set us up on a date. After the date, he drove me home and my mom asked if he would like to stay for filled peppers. He said thank you. He loved filled peppers.

I cannot imagine my life if we hadn't moved next door to the Pilots.

Uncle Mike, we'll miss you. Thank you for introducing me to my husband.

It's been an honor to know you.

Ralph Rides Again (via Mrs. B.)

Mrs. Blandings always finds such great goods:
the latest, with an assist from Kansas City's Stuff.
See here. Above, a treasure from the vault.

Kirby Hall, Elizabethan remodelled 1638-40 by Nicholas Stone (we don't know if Jones advised.)

Lordy, what did we do without the internet?

All manner of material and classes at hand.
Here, a delightful find (was poking around for
tidbits that might lead to Inigo Jones).
